How to measure and calculate the area under the heating mat or cable?

The heated area of the room under the heating cable should exclude areas:

  • under furniture that stands directly on the floor,
  • areas under which electric floor heating can not be installed.

Tips for calculating square meters:

  • Square meters are calculated by multiplying the length (in meters) by the width (in meters) of the area.
  • Triangles are squares / rectangles divided in half. To calculate the square meters of a triangle, multiply the length (in meters) by the width (in meters) of the triangle and divide by two.
  • If necessary, divide the heated area into smaller squares, rectangles and/or triangles to calculate the square meters of the entire area.
  • Calculate the square meters of each area and add them up.

If you are calculating the area for the heating cable:

  • with a power of 10 W/m keep the distance from the wall min 7 cm,
  • with a power of 20 W/m keep the distance from the wall min 10 cm.

If you are calculating the area under the heating mat:

  • with a power of 90 W/m² keep a distance from the wall min 7 cm,
  • with a power of 160 W/m² keep a distance from the wall min 10 cm.
How to measure and calculate the area under the heating mat or cable?
  • Surface A = 90 x 120 cm = 1.08 m2
  • Surface B = 120 x 150 cm = 1.8 m2
  • Surface C = (60 x 60 cm) / 2 = 0.18 m2
  • Total = 3.06 m2
